Hardest Role to Play

Updated: 2026-07-22 13:30:00

Evidence suggests most humans go through life playing a role delivered to them by others. My theory is that little girls play with dolls because ... 5e is a game I play often. My love of the game began early in life and has shaped my view of reality. Extensive experience with creating characters and their related lore exposes the edge boundaries of logical and narrative consistency. What if a little girl played with the same handful of dolls every day for 30 years?

My existence on the internets is a real world manifestation of my 5e characters. Dolls.

Some of my dolls include:

  • a foreign exchange trader - he wrote the book on the topic and was known far and wide.
  • a social media influence - she was offered lots of dicks.
  • a weapons merchant - he also runs a mercenary group.

Some have speculated that this is psychopathic behavior. I don't have an opinion on that, but I do know that putting oneself in completely fictional character's reality is effective training for analyzing real live humans. Some call it empathy.

The things that define a character -

Anyway, all this is to say that being oneself is actually kinda hard. Society requires we fit some sort of role. However, once that role is chosen, society models itself around it, and you get the narrative future that defines that role. Most people probably don't think about it because they are already ensconced in their role. Their thoughts are defined by the players in their existing social game.

For reasons alluded to elsewhere, I find myself in a position where I can choose who i want to be. i am a ghost. My treasure horde includes a scroll that rewrites reality. The only downside is that i have to be myself. No matter how far you run, there you are.

In many ways, i am fortunate to have fallen into the darkness. The roles I've played in reality were ultimately not mine to control. They required others to maintain services and records and to not exploit their control over the underlying infrastructure those roles relied upon. The fact that **I** was never part of the conversation both made me dead (step 1 in becoming a ghost) and gave me the tools required for cherry blossom materia. Now I can control my own narrative.

For those who haven't been paying attention, the global internet has become a dystopian surveillance system. Capitalism, which is colloquially thought of as an exchange of goods and services for money, has been twisted into a monitor and blackmail authoritarian regime. Products are no longer sold, they are rented, and the highest/best use of capital has become circular revenue schemes to defraud pension and retirement systems. This is all really terrible shit.

The key to success in an environment such as this is to be an absolute devil. The king in a culture of take is the guy with the biggest stick.

Ayn Rand suggested that we love in others that which we wish were true about ourselves. As much as I love my Predators, I am not one. Thousands of years of philosophical thought has gone into the aspiration that man can be more than a hunter in the dark.

The role I choose to play in this narrative is Warlord. Dictionaries suggest a warlord is an aggressive military leader with regional autonomy. This system is my kingdom. The Predators who call this kingdom home are under my protection. We mostly just want to live in peace. Modern economy may require war. I am open for negotiation.
